Farvestrålende

Colourful

Danish Art Collector Erik Veistrup has donated 54 paintings from his private collection to Trapholt – an event that is celebrated by this colourful exhibition and associated catalogue.

Pink‑orange explosions split the heavens, bright yellow figures shimmer in a cool blue haze, carefully set spots of innumerable nuances of green assemble in a flurry of spring foliage, a pastose mud‑brown silhouette surprises with a delicate rose light, deep warm ochre tints set a tiger in motion.

The Veistrup collection as a whole – and especially that part of it which is now included in the Trapholt collection – appears to be a natural extension of the collector’s personality: colourful, passionate and anything but dull!

Veistrup has been collecting paintings, sculptures and ceramics for years and has now chosen to donate a large part of his extensive collection to selected museums. Most of the pieces donated to the Trapholt collection are paintings by the Violet Sun group which in Denmark in the 1970s and 1980s populated their canvases with powerful brush strokes, expressive enjoyment of colour, and heavy use of symbolic motifs.

Trapholt owes Erik Veistrup its deep and heart‑felt gratitude for his generous gift. Crossing paths with the collection and the collector has given the museum immense added value in the form of pure and unadulterated pleasure in artistic pieces – which the musem in turn is happy to share with its visitors!

The exhibition is open until September 26th, 2010.
